Anthropology 4U courses are made for beginners who do not know anything about Anthropology! And, I try to make the courses fairly easy–my goal is to have you learn Anthropology in a way that’s easy to understand. FAQ About Courses

Basic Format of the Course

All courses are made up of short video lessons that are mostly around 5-10 minutes long. These video lessons contain mostly narrated slideshows. The narration is not me personally talking–it is a high-quality A.I. voice. I am disabled and I use a ventilator to breathe, because I have a progressive neuromuscular disease. It is difficult to talk with the ventilator, so I am using A.I. as a disability accommodation. Many courses have links to supplemental resources (such as web articles and YouTube videos) to compliment the lectures. All courses include a Bonus PDF at the end of the course. In the Bonus PDF, I provide additional resources related to the course, such as links to websites and videos, so you can continue learning.

Course Activities and Assignments

All courses include short interactive activities. Some courses have interactive activities after each lecture, while other courses have interactive activities at the end of each unit. Each of these interactive activities will take less than 15 minutes to complete. And, you can keep trying these activities until you earn 100%! All courses also include short assignments. You just answer a few questions, mostly by typing your answers into a text box on the screen. These short assignments should take you less than 15 minutes to complete.

Tests and Quizzes

At the end of most units, there is a short quiz. You can retake the quiz until you pass with a score of 80% or higher. There are no long tests, or final exams. Instead of a final exam, you complete a final project called the “Be Like an Anthropologist Activity.” See the “Final Project” section below for details!

Digital Badges

As you progress through a course, you will earn digital badges as you meet course competencies! To view the competencies for your specific course, please read the “Start Here!” section at the beginning of your course. Wondering what a digital badge is? A digital badge is a digital micro-credential that you earn by learning something. It sort of looks like a digital icon. If you are familiar with American culture, you may know that children in programs such as the Scouts earn physical badges (fabric patches that are sewn on their shirts) for learning different skills (like how to build a fire). Digital badges are very similar! Many people share the digital badges they earned on social media, their resume, and their LinkedIn profile!

Final Project

All courses have a final project, called the “Be Like an Anthropologist Activity.” This is where you have the opportunity to go out “in the field” and do something that a real Anthropologist would do! This final activity will take you about an hour to complete, maybe longer. If you are not happy with your grade on this project, you can contact me for help and then try again. I want you to succeed!

Grading

You need to earn an average score of 80% or higher in order to pass the course. But remember, my courses are set up to guarantee your success! I use aspects of both mastery-based learning and competency-based learning to help you. So, for example, you can try the interactive activities, quizzes, and final project over and over, until you reach a grade of 80% or higher. I want you to succeed in my courses! And I am always happy to help you if you need it! (Please note: The guarantee of success assumes that you are making an effort in the course. I will not do the coursework for you.)

Need Help?

If you need any help during the course, please contact me! I strongly believe there are NO stupid questions. If you already knew everything about Anthropology, you wouldn’t be taking a course! So it’s normal to have questions. I will always be happy to help you! There are several ways to contact me for help with your course. Each course begins with a “Start Here!” section, which explains your options for contacting me.

If you are unable to download your certificate, please contact me and I’ll make sure you get a copy! The first section of the course, “Start Here!,” explains the different ways you can contact me.
