Learn Archaeology: Free Online Courses

Are you bored with staying at home due to COVID? Are you interested in learning more about Archaeology? Check out this blog post for information on some FREE online courses related to Archaeology. And don’t miss the next few blog posts, where I will share some online courses related to other Anthropology topics!

Please note: All of the websites that host these online courses will ask you to pay for extra features, but the courses themselves are free.

#1: Archaeology: From Dig to Lab and Beyond

In this course, you will learn about planning an archaeological excavation, some archaeological discoveries in England, and lab analysis.

#2: Archaeology and the Battle of Dunbar 1650: From the Scottish Battlefield to the New World

In this course, you will learn about the archaeology of the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. You’ll learn about the discovery of the site, analysis of human remains found at the site, and repatriation and ethics.

In this course, you’ll learn about Star Carr, which is a very important archaeological site in Britain. You will learn about the discovery of the site, stone tools, the use of plants, and the use of animals.

In this course, you will learn what literary and archaeological evidence says about health in ancient Rome and Greece. You’ll learn about medicine, body modifications, human waste, and more.

#5: Pyramids of Giza: Ancient Egyptian Art and Archaeology

In this course, you will learn about the Giza Pyramids, including their cultural and religious significance. You will also learn about the role of hieroglyphics and appreciation for Egyptian art.

In this course, you will learn about archaeological discoveries, the archaeology of ancient Israel and Judah, and Biblical Archaeology. You’ll also learn about Biblical Archaeology as a career.

In this course, you will learn about astronomy in ancient cultures. This includes a study of Stonehenge, the Egyptian pyramids, and the Maya Calendar. 

#8: At the Origins of the Mediterranean Civilization: Archaeology of the City from the Levant to the West – 3rd-1st millennium BC

In this course, you will learn about the archaeology of the Mediterranean Civilization.

#9: The Changing Landscape of Ancient Rome. Archaeology and History of the Palatine Hill

In this course, you will learn about basic archaeology, including classifying archaeological evidence, and trying to identify some artifacts. You’ll also learn about the archaeology of ancient Rome.

#10: Wonders of Ancient Egypt

In this course, you will learn about ancient Egypt, and view some actual Egyptian artifacts from the Penn Museum.
